November 2013

The weather grows incessantly colder outside and it is the time that the end of year concerts are all stacking up on top of each other.

This past week, I had a delightful time playing with the the McDaniel College quartet and flute choir, in particular having the privilege of performing alongside internationally renowned composer Jonathan Cohen. Mr. Cohen's work Free as a Child, was the last on the program and was the perfect piece to end the concert with.

Mr. Cohen was also gracious enough to share some insight into some of his composing methods with me, and I enjoyed listening to some of his newest compositions. Not only that, but I had the opportunity to try out “Tiny”, Mr. Cohen's contrabass flute.

It is so wonderful to meet and play with other flutists and composers, and Mr. Cohen is an inspiration to me for own writing. I look forward to performing with him and “Tiny” in the future, and in the meantime, I shall be busy furiously putting pencil to manuscript paper as new musical ideas present themselves.
